With proof of vaccination now required by law before you’re allowed to enter pubs, clubs, cafes, cinemas and pretty much every other public venue you care to mention, the Check In Qld app has become an essential piece of kit.
The Queensland government’s statistics reveal check-ins have been falling gradually month-on-month since August, but this trend looks set to reverse in a hurry now that vaccination mandates have come into force.
Ever since the Check In Qld app has been operating, one very useful function has been the ability to check in other ‘Frequent Guests’ at the same time.
The rules on this also changed yesterday with the vaccination mandate — you’ll need someone’s vaccination status on your phone if you want to check them in.
You can do so directly from your myGov account, but this is how to do it via the Medicare Express Plus app:
You need to download the latest version of the Medicare Express Plus app on your phone. You use the myGov login to register yourself on this app.
Once you have, log yourself out of Medicare Express Plus, then log in as the person whose certificate you require, using their myGov username and password.
To log out of Medicare Express Plus, hit the Menu option (bottom right) then scroll down to the bottom of the screen for the Logout option.
To log back in as someone else, it’s easiest to have the person sitting beside you with their phone, because you’ll need a code from that person’s phone to confirm the login.
Under Services in the Medicare Express Plus app, pick the second option: Proof of vaccinations.
Then choose the green button labelled: View history.
Scroll down past immunisation history to COVID-19 digital certificate and click the second of two green buttons labelled: Share with check in app.
In the Check In Qld app window choose the white button labelled: Share again.
Scroll down through a long list of text (it’s not essential to read this, but that’s your call).
At the bottom of the page, choose the green button labelled: Accept and share.
This will flash up a WARNING that you are now leaving the Medicare app.
This will then take you back to the Check In Qld app.
You will be asked: Do you want to add this COVID-19 digital certificate to a guest?
That’s it! Congratulations, you’ve done it.
But there is one more thing to watch for.
From the home page of the Check In Qld app, click the three lines in the top left corner of the screen.
From the list of options, choose: Frequent Guests.
You might now have two entries for the same person. If so, you only need the one with the green tick.
To delete the one you don’t want, just touch it, then choose the three dots on the top right of the screen and pick the bin option.
Repeat this process to add as many people as you need.
One other thing…
In the past two days, several people have reported receiving this failure message from the Check In Qld app right as they get to the final step of adding in a guest’s certificate.
If this happens, best to leave it a few hours or even a day before trying again — it’s likely due to the number of people all trying to upload vaccination certificates at the same time.
Queensland Health said proof of COVID-19 vaccination or medical exemption includes:
- A written confirmation of COVID vaccination provided as part of the vaccination process, such as a record of vaccine card;
- A COVID-19 digital certificate or printed vaccination certificate from the Australian Immunisation Register;
- An online or printed immunisation history statement for COVID-19 vaccination, including confirmation of a medical contraindication (A visitor’s immunisation history statement can be obtained from the Australian government using myGov, the Medicare mobile app or by calling the Australian Immunisation Register and requesting a statement to be posted);
- An international COVID-19 vaccination certificate.
