Thousands of Tesco customers have been struggling to order their weekly shop after the supermarket’s app and website crashed this afternoon and has been down for hours.
Shoppers with Tesco accounts, or the app on their phones, have been reporting that they’ve been struggling to sign in, that their orders disappear or that they find the website or app stop working halfway through an order.
The store’s social media channels have been deluged with complaints and questions about when it will be back online – and the store is responding.
“Unfortunately, we are aware of there being issues with the website at the moment, but please be assured that the IT team are working as fast as they can to resolve this. In the meantime, however, I am sorry for the inconvenience caused here,” a spokesperson for the store said to one customer.
“We’re aware of a number of issues currently affecting our online grocery website,” they told another. “Some customers are seeing error messages, while for others the website is running slowly. Our IT team are aware and are currently investigating.”
The internet website monitor Down Detector showed the problems initially began at around 3.30pm this afternoon, got better for a while, but returned at around 5pm and peaked just after 7pm with hundreds every minute registering that the website wasn’t working.
Scores of people have taken to Twitter to voice their frustrations.
One person wrote: “@Tesco your app is broken, what’s going on? I tried to go in to update my order won’t let me log in, change password etc. Keeps saying “something went wrong”
Another said: “I think there’s gonna be a whole lot of cancelled tesco orders tomorrow. App has been down for hours and nobody can amend their order. My deadline is 11:45pm. If I can’t get in by that time I’m f**king the whole thing off tomorrow.”
And someone else said: “Hi Tesco are you having trouble with the on line grocery app. I keep getting chucked out then can’t sign in again. Getting frustrated as I’m trying to get my shop paid for and I don’t want to lose my slot for tomorrow.”
