Niantic, the developer of Pokémon Go, has acquired Scaniverse for a private amount.
Developed by Toolbox AI, this mobile app allows users to capture, edit and share 3D scans of real-world objects using only their smartphone’s camera.
As part of the deal, Scaniverse founder and CEO Keith Ito will join Niantic’s AR engineering team.
This acquisition impacts Niantic’s greater ambition to create a “dynamic spatial map of the world” built from rendering 3D-scanned locations.
